Autism Spectrum Disorders and psychotherapy treatments
PsychSystems is proud to offer a range of services designed to meet the needs of children, adolescents and adults on the Autism Spectrum. We provide ABA services to help children learn important skills that will increase important social, communication and self-care skills that will last a lifetime. The Private counselling London Tends to have doesn’t usually cater for both adults and children on the autism spectrum, however, we do. For adults who are on the Autism Spectrum, we offer individual therapy and in-home consultative services to help the person and their loved ones better understand and help the person succeed. We offer the following services:
PsychSystems offers assessment services to determine if your child is on the Autism Spectrum. In addition to a comprehensive interview and clinical observations, we employ a variety of standardized tools to help us reach our conclusions. Some of the tools we use are:
- The Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale – 2 (ADOS-2)
- The Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADIR)
- The Gilliam Asperger’s Disorder Scale (GADS)
- The Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS)
psytherapy.co.uk also conduct behavioral/functional assessments that help to determine the characteristics of specific challenging behaviors. By conducting a behavioral assessment, we are able to develop individualized treatments that address the person’s needs.
In terms of treatment approaches, we offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies including discrete trial training, where appropriate. Many of our clinicians have their BCBA certificates and others are BCBA certification eligible or knowledgeable of ABA strategies. We also train parents, caregivers, and other interested parties (paid caregivers, school personnel) in strategies to prevent problematic behavior and increase more pro-social interactions. We use many different modalities of therapy (individual therapy, group therapy, in-home consultation and center based treatments) to best address the needs of the person to achieve the best possible outcome.
ABA Intensive Treatment for children with Autism
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is the gold standard for helping children with Autism reach their highest potential. In fact, ABA is the only Autism Treatment recommended by the Surgeon General of the United States.
PsychSystems offers both a Center based program (in Harper Woods, on the campus of Starr Detroit Academy) and home-based services (throughout Southeastern Michigan and soon in Northwestern Ohio). Our Technicians are supervised by BCBA staff and are extensively trained throughout their work tenure with us. We invest in our Technicians – it is our belief that the more they know, the better they can serve your child. We also retain our technicians – your child may have the same Technician working with him or her for years at a time. It is our goal to provide the best, highest quality treatment possible.
ASD/Asperger’s Social Skills group
PsychSystems offers a 10-week interactive social skills training group to help children with high-functioning ASD (previously referred to as Asperger’s syndrome) learn to improve their social interaction abilities.
Children with high-functioning ASD often exhibit difficulties in the social areas of life. They frequently have few, if any, friends, they are teased and often feel like they “don’t fit in”. Social skills training has been found to be one of the best ways to help these children learn the various ‘social rules’ that other people take for granted.
To ensure that each child receives the best outcome possible, PsychSystems therapists use a structured group method that adheres to established ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) principles. Each group uses informational learning experiences combined with role play and social interaction to allow each participant to interface with the relevant skill in different ways. This allows us to meet each child at his or her level and learning style.
Our Adolescent group (ages 8-14) meets at our Wayne offices, our young children’s group (4-7) meets at the Autism Center in Harper woods. Openings in the group are limited, please contact us for details.
At times, the challenges of a particular person with ASD may not be well served by intensive models but may be best served by consultation by a trained professional. PsychSystems offers in-home assessment, behavioral intervention plans, and family/caregiver training to help the person learn alternative ways to deal with life stressors. People who may have challenges with anger/aggression, self-injury, or other problems related to day-to-day living (i.e depression or anxiety) can be helped by working with a PsychSystems therapist. Sessions can be held in a persons home, or at one of our offices – whichever is best for your situation. Please contact us for additional information.
