Assessment

PsychSystems, P.C. offers different types of psychological assessments depending upon the nature of your concerns. Our assessment batteries can include a comprehensive assessment of your cognitive abilities, academic/achievement skills, and adaptive (daily living skills) abilities. We do behavioral assessments for those people with developmental disabilities, including autism, using a functional analysis approach. We screen for problems such as Autism/ Aspergers Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and mental illness.

If you wish to become someone's guardian, we do guardianship testing required for the court hearing. If you are seeking services from a community mental health agency working with people with developmental disabilities, we do eligibility evaluations.

Based on the results of your testing, we can develop a treatment plan tailored toward the individual's pattern of strengths and weaknesses as well as identified emotional and behavioral concerns.

Fees: Fees will be based on your individual needs and will be determined during the initial consultation. Most insurances do not cover psychological assessments.

Treatment

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy begins with an initial consultation with a therapist to assess your concerns, decide how best to address them (decide which treatment strategy will work best), and develop a plan on how to proceed (setting goals and objectives). Homework may given between sessions to help you practice the strategies you are learning in therapy.

You and your therapist will decide how often you will meet. Sessions are 50 minutes long. The duration of your treatment will depend on the issues you are working on. Short-term (6-8 weeks) to longer term

2-6 months) are common at PsychSystems, P.C.

Couples Therapy

Couples Therapy involves meeting with a therapist to understand and resolve relationship difficulties within romantic relationships. We offer therapy for married, non-married, and same-sex couples.

Couples therapy can be helpful for couples who find themselves engaging in frequent conflict, are not communicating well, are experiencing betrayal, or are experiencing other threats to their relationship. With the therapist's help, many couples develop a more satisfying, healthy relationship, and learn skills that help the relationship continue to grow after the therapy has ended. Therapy often focuses on increasing the positive aspects of the relationship based on the strengths each person brings to the relationship and decrease the negative aspects by learning better ways to communicate, problem-solve and set shared goals.

Family Therapy

Much like couples therapy; family therapy will focus on understanding and resolving difficulties within the family based on each individual's input. Family therapy also includes parenting skill building, including interventions with children who have behavioral challenges, and those on the autism spectrum.

Group Therapy

Psych Systems' groups are designed to help with specific problems or concerns. They are supportive, educational, and the focus is on building skills to use once the group is over. The group therapy format helps people learn and practice skills with people who have similar concerns and feel more supported and less alone.

Some groups we offer:

* Aspergers/Autism Spectrum Disorder Social Skills Group

* Weight Loss

* Anger Management

Behavior Consultation and Treatment Planning

If you know someone who has behavioral challenges or needs help acquiring skills, we can help.

We first do a thorough assessment, a functional evaluation of behavior, to determine the causes/contributing factors to the problems, determine what is likely to help decrease the problems and increase more appropriate behavior, and develop a plan that caregivers can implement. Caregivers are instructed on how to carry out these strategies and the plan is monitored, modified, and re-inserviced as needed, according to the person's progress or condition.

We can also help people acquire new skills such as learning daily living skills and speaking/communication using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs such as discrete trial training for verbal behavior, or alternative methods of communication using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

Psychiatric

Sometimes mental health problems are most effectively treated with a combination of therapy and medication. We offer medication consultations and, when indicated, medication prescription and management for interested patients who are currently receiving therapy in our clinic. Our prescriber is a licensed psychiatrist who is experienced in using pharmacotherapy to treat a variety of concerns.

Decisions about whether to pursue a medication consultation can be made in collaboration with your therapist.

Personal Coaching

Also referred to as Life Coaching, Personal Coaching is the practice of supporting an individual through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result. It is geared toward generally healthy people who want to improve their lives in specific ways, such as changing careers, finding a healthy relationship, taking their business to a new level, losing weight or deepening their self-understanding. Personal coaching often addresses stress management as well as time management, goal setting and other key areas of change to help their clients lead more balanced lives

that better reflect clients' personal values and priorities. It differs from therapy in that the focus is more on the present and future than the past, and does not emphasize treating or ameliorating emotional problems or patterns.
